Most cowboys I know seem to wear out faster than normal citizens, probably the result of adverse conditions and self abuse.  Hollywood protrays the cowboy life as a happy go lucky romantic adventure.  I have tasted the life of a cowboy and the existance is a hard dirty struggle of poverty and survival.  
Some years ago I gave a sculpture to one of my cowboy friends on this 86th birthday.  He still rode everyday and maintained his ranch.  His response to the gift was " I been riding everyday for 80 years and it's the first trophy I ever won"
